The historians believe that present Jamnagar was founded in 1519 by Jam Rawalji. The Kshatriyas of the “Jadeja” dynasty who derived from the Kutch region along with their army established the Navanagar state by defeating the Jethva, Dada, Chavda and Vadher branches of Rajput. This region was called as “Halar” on the name of Halaji – son of “Gajan” the predecessor of the Jadeja dynasty, and since then, this region is called as Halar.
The boundary of the ancient Halar state is comprised of the gulf and desert of Kutch at the north, desert of Madhi and the Arabian Sea at the west and the princely states of Rajkot, Dhrol, and Gondal at the east. Climate of the Sorath and Halar region is temperate. This region, being situated under the impact of the winds flowing from the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Kutch has temperature of lower level. Consequently, the atmosphere during the mid-summer period remains pleasant. Wind –speed in this area generally remains from 50 to 55 k.m.p.h. Navanagar i.e. present Jamnagar is the biggest princely state of the Halar region in Kathiyawad.
