Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has given Rs. 500 crore. Introducing the decision, Chief Minister Rupani said that the Tau-Te hurricane has affected Girsomnath, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar and Botad in five districts as well as Navsari, Surat, Valsad, Bharuch districts of South Gujarat and an area of about two lakh hectares in 86 talukas of the state. Coronavirus, the State Cabinet with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in chair here
today discussed in detail the damage to crops, electricity and roads in the
coastal areas of Gujarat’s Saurashtra and other regions due to recent cyclone
Tauktae accompanied with strong winds.
The
cyclone sliced through the state from May 17 to 18, 2021 for 24-26 hours at
velocity of 60-220 kmph. Prime Minister Narendra Modi after aerial survey on
May 19 announced immediate assistance of Rs.1,000-crore for which Gujarat
thanked the Centre.
Mr.
Rupani lauded the brave performance of the dedicated Team Gujarat in keeping
the damage to minimum due to advance planning and timely preparedness preceding
several days by top officers to junior most employees.
Explaining
the works undertaken, he said that different departments of the State
Government started restoration and rescue operations from May 20. All damaged
roads have been repaired as no village remained disconnected now while vehicles
are back on the road.
The
cyclone inflicted maximum damage to electricity supply in 10,447 villages,
snapping wires, damaging sub-stations and towers. Electricity has been restoration
work has been launched in all the affected villages except 450. Among towns,
that in Jafrabad is expected to be restored by May 28. Over 600 teams are busy
restoring electricity in Amreli district alone.
The
State Government has started distributing cash doles to affected people,
already distributing Rs.10 crore to 2.25-lakh people. Another 15,000 families
will be paid Rs. 7,000 each for housekeeping by next Sunday.
The
government has begun distributing Rs. 95,100 for completely damaged houses,
Rs.25,000 for over 33 per cent damage and Rs. 10,000 for damaged huts, as was
decided earlier.
The
survey is on as the cyclone has hit most the fruit laden coconut trees, mango
and lemon, mainly in orchards in Gir, Somnath and Junagadh districts. The
agriculture department in an innovative step will hold joint meeting with

Referring
to government initiatives to combat and control coronavirus, the Chief Minister

He
said the fishing industry has also been severely hit, wreaking many small and
big boats.
Agriculture
Minister R. C. Faldu said 437 teams of Gram Sevaks have been formed for
surveying damage to crops and fruit-bearing trees in Bhavnagar also. About 86
percent of the survey has been completed, inflicting damage to about 16.42 lakh
trees. He said the teams are surveying standing summer crops of groundnut, til,
urad, bajri, and vegetables.
Energy
Minister Saurabh Patel said that restoration of electricity in waterworks, 295
Covid hospitals and 26 oxygen plants are being taken up on priority. The power
has been restored in 291 out of 295 affected Covid Hospitals, while generators
are working in the remaining four. The cyclone has hit 3,205 towers, while
3,057 have been restored, including that in Botad district.
Mr. Patel
said that 500 staff of 40 teams of the State Electricity Distribution
Companies, 600 staff of 18 Grid Companies and 1,334 staff of 69 teams of
private companies are at work of restoration electricity. The cyclone has
affected about 8,800 farm sector feeders, power has been restored in 3,547
feeders, work on in 1,254
Mr. Patel assured that electricity will be restored to all consumers fast as officers, employees, and contractors are busy day-night at work.
